Job Summary: To provide Automation and Welding support for daily operations at the manufacturing facility. The Welding and Automation Specialist will use their knowledge of advanced robotic and automation systems to drive improvements in welding efficiency, welding processes, and weld quality. The Specialist will assist engineering in implementation of new product launches and changes to existing product. This position will also assist maintenance and controls engineering in troubleshooting welding and automation failures that have resulted in downtime.

Pay Rate- $20.07-$24.42

  • Must have knowledge of and the ability to write robotic programs from scratch on a variety of robot systems to include Fanuc, Motoman, ABB, and Kuka.
  • Must be able to program/calibrate and make changes to integrated equipment like Servo Robot.
  • Will assist engineering and CI with optimization of robot cells and other welding automation.
  • Will assist engineering and tool suppliers with new tooling reviews for welding automation applications.
  • Will assist in new product launches to include robot programming, weld development under the supervision of the welding engineer/welding supervisor/CWI, tooling set up, and I/O debug with controls engineering.
  • Provide weld support to manufacturing to include wire changes, wire feed issues, and troubleshooting weld equipment failures.
  • Should possess a broad knowledge of welding power sources to include Fronius, Miller, Lincoln, and SKS.
  • Should be knowledgeable of various welding processes.
  • Must meet internal training requirements of a minimum score to advance from Entry Level to Weld and Automation Specialist B, and Weld and Automation Specialist B to Weld and Automation Specialist A.
  • Must be familiar with Melton Rotary Machines in both the setup of and making program adjustments.
  • Must be able to efficiently and effectively identify and help diagnose production tooling and equipment problems on automated equipment, correct problems, and improve manufacturing.
  • Must be familiar with the metallurgy lab and operations to include use of horizontal saw, vertical saw, wet saw, press, polisher, and pax-it software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience / Skills:

Education / Experience:

  • Entry Level Weld and Automation Specialist
    • High School diploma or general education degree(GED)
    • One year certificate from a college or technical school; Completion and certification from an Industrial Robotic Program; or three to six months related experience and/or training in welding; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Welding and Automation Specialist B
    • All requirements from Entry Level Weld and Automation Specialist plus 1 - 2 years related welding and automation experience; Must also meet minimum score requirements on Internal Robot training Curriculum, as well as Melton and Metallurgy lab training requirements to move from Entry Level Weld and Automation Specialist to Welding and Automation Specialist B.
  • Welding and Automation Specialist A
    • All requirements from Entry Level Weld and Automation Specialist plus 3 - 5 years related welding and automation experience; Must also meet minimum score requirements on Internal Robot training Curriculum, as well as Melton and Metallurgy lab training requirements to move from Welding and Automation Specialist B to Welding and Automation Specialist A.

Skills:

  • Must have the ability to work independently but perform effectively and sometimes serve as a leader in a team environment.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing would be beneficial.
  • Must be able to work safely and follow company safety rules.
  • Must understand the basic use of a computer to include Microsoft word and excel.
  • Should be able to use common measuring devices such as calipers.

Travel:

  • Ability to travel.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Occasionally required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to High.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally
